Is apraxia part of the autism spectrum disorders? Sensory problems? Food allergy?
My son was recently diagnosed with apraxia at age 2.5. He has been in speech since 20 months (3x a week). He is 2 months shy of 3 yrs. He has made huge leaps and bounds over where he was. At 18 months he said 3 partial words. He picked up sign language extremely quickly. He understood you and followed directions (most of the time). He is still well behind where other children his age are. His Speech Language pathologist (SLP) said if he keeps making as much progress as he has, and keeps the pace up, by the time kindergarten comes, he shouldn’t be far behind the other kids. I was ecstatic upon hearing that. His hearing is fine. His intelligence is very good.

I have noticed a few things though. I still have a gut feeling that something just isn’t right. He is the most destructive child I’ve ever had. He is worse than his two older brothers were combined. (The older brothers were less than 2 years apart, and would team up together and baby powder the house, and stick of lincoln logs up the vacuum, etc) He is so busy getting into everything. Turn your back a second, to take feed/change his little brother, and you have: powered laundry detergent down the lint screen hole in the dryer, or all 5 lbs of cat food poured on the floor, or dad’s poster paints all over the carpet, or lipstick drawings on the walls and carpet, or toothpaste squeezed out all over the bathroom sinks, labels riped off all the cans of food, etc. I have baby locks on all the cabinets, but he figured them out in 2 days. I do lock doors, but he knows how to use the keys. He is a climber. He will climb on everything. He has a ton of toys. I play with him. He loves to help me with housework: putting wet laundry in the dryer, carrying groceries, making daddy’s coffee, etc.

He has other behavior issues. It is really hard to put a finger on it. He won’t ever settle down. Taking him to the doctors is a nightmare. We went to the cardiologist for a heart murmur. They went to put sticker on his chest to get a heart tracing. He lost it He screamed and sweated so much, the stickers were falling off. There was Toy Story 2 on right in front of him. The nurse brought stickers, and a lollipop, and a juice box, anything to get him to calm down. Obviously, stickers don’t hurt. It took myself and another nurse to hold him down. He acted like we were killing him. The nurse mentioned sensory issues. He hates bandages. Even the ones with the characters he likes, he will cry if they are on him. He refuses to get his blood pressure taken. Even before the cuff tightens, he is screaming "off me". He hates certain things. He hates sitting in the grocery carts, seat or basket. The diaper changing pad has a cover on it. I was washing both covers, and he screamed and yelled about it touching him. "Ow, Ow, off me!" I also changed his little brother on it. There were no complaints from him. He hates his car seat. It is a very nice seat, with a lot of cushioning. His complaint is the straps. Sometimes he will scream hysterically about sitting with the straps on. He’ll sit without the straps no problem. He’ll scream "Go me" (Let go of me.) He’ll work himself up so much that he’ll try to make himself throw-up. I’ve tightened the straps. I’ve loosened the strap, until they were basically useless. The straps have padding on them where the strap hits the shoulder. It makes no difference. He has issues with tags. Of course some tags are scratchy, as everyone has felt before. I removed those tags. Some are made out of very soft ribbon. He hates those too. Of course the same type ribbon is on his stuffed frog that he must carry everywhere. The tag is something that he rubs constantly with his finger. I don’t get it.

The SLP said that he definitely doesn’t have PDD. She says that while she is no doctor, she treats those children everyday, and there is no comparison between my son and the children with PDD. The pediatrician says that his behaviors are similar to some of her autistic patients. Then she referred me back to the SLP he is seeing. DUH!! I can’t help but think there is something else going on. He wants to interact with you, and likes to cling to me most of the day. Does the above sound like a sensory issue? It is very difficult to get referrals to specialists here. I’m trying to get one to a developmental pediatrician.

He also has a problem drinking milk. I’m certain there is something in his genetics. He will have diarrhea 3x a day with any milk consumption. His older brother has a milk protein allergy. He had bloody diapers as a baby. His younger brothor vomited blood and has a protein allergy. He is on feeding tube formula. His older brother didn’t have any issues with speech and was recently told he is gifted. I read something on Google that said that allergies sometimes follow/precede apraxia and autism. Any feelings on this??

Any feedback, personal experiences are

print out your post and discuss it with his doctor & therapist. meet with a nutritionist to discuss a diet modification.

It sounds to me like your son has a issue with sensory items. Autism has a huge spectrum from kids that are not able to function to children that suffer from only a few signs of Autism.

Some major red flags of autism are:
No big smiles by 6 months
No back and forth sharing of sounds, smiles, or other facial expressions by 9 months
No back and forth gestures such as pointing, showing, or waving by 12 months
No words by 16 months
No 2 word meaningful phrases by 24 months
Loss of speech at any age

Sometimes when you are looking at problems with speech and allergies you can get a miss diagnosis of what a child has. The symptoms of one disorder can mimic others. From the what you have told me about your son I would definatly look into have him tested on a medical level for things like allergies that could be triggering these symptoms. I would also talk to a childhood phsycologist and have him tested for sensory issues and Autism.

The earlier you get him tested the earlier that you can start early interventions which are key. You have seen this with the SLP and the progress that your son has made. He will be able to work with an early childhood special education teacher and an occupational therapist. They will be able to help you and your son with behavioral and sensory issues.

I hope this helps! Feel free to contact me with any further questions you have and I will try my best to answer them for you.

definitely something going on there – sounds so much like my oldest was. she’s nearly 24 and found out at the age of 20 that instead of tourette’s AND ocd AND adhd AND a sleep disorder AND anorexia syndrome AND a "personality disorder of a pervasive nature" (but nothing more specific than that and nothing ever came of it) that she probably has asperger’s syndrome. i looked it up and it certainly hit on all counts.

my youngest is like that, but not to such a negative extent – she smiles and is very charming and sociable whilst my oldest made even bikers in full leather gear ask me to turn the stroller around because her staring gave them the willies. she doesn’t like anything fuzzy or fluffy – won’t have it touch her. she prefers to sleep with things like the kitchen ladle or a big board book; hard, smooth surfaces instead of her kissy-bunny blanket or a stuffy. she is TERRIFIED of bugs – i mean irrational hysterics, even if it’s a butterfly. she will now tolerate butterfly pictures and acknowledges they’re pretty but if she sees one in real life, it’s melt-down city. she also has speech problems – doing much better; starts her second round of speech therapy next week. they say there’s a neurological problem – her mouth isn’t forming sounds properly even when you show her (sticks her tongue out between her teeth when she makes the L sound, ie, and has six different version of the M sound: "loo-lan" instead of "mulan"; "nax and booby" instead of "max and ruby"; "oo-wee" instead of "movie"; etc).

her hearing was tested and it’s fine – by that, i mean she has no infection but i forgot she is showing signs of hearing loss in certain frequencies MAYBE. she is being retested on march 1st to see if the test is confirmed. because of her inability to respond and understand what he was saying and her fear of the stuffed animals they were using, it’s a bit difficult to say for sure.

my second daughter – nearly 21 – had the exact same speech problems. when she was 18mo old, the doctor discovered she had a silent ear infection so bad he couldn’t even find her ear drum, it was all so swollen in there. he couldn’t believe she was just sitting there calmly and smiling away – said she should be screaming in agony. it took nine months of heavy-hitting antibiotics to get rid of it – she’d be fine on the meds and a week after stopping, the infection would return. probably as a result, she grew up with central auditory processing disorder.

Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom of Heaven
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)

IMDB rating: 6.90

Plot: It is the time of the Crusades during the Middle Ages – the world shaping 200-year collision between Europe and the East. A blacksmith named Balian has lost his family and nearly his faith. The religious wars raging in the far-off Holy Land seem remote to him, yet he is pulled into that immense drama. Amid the pageantry and intrigues of medieval Jerusalem he falls in love, grows into a leader, and ultimately uses all his courage and skill to defend the city against staggering odds. Destiny comes seeking Balian in the form of a great knight, Godfrey of Ibelin, a Crusader briefly home to France from fighting in the East. Revealing himself as Balian’s father, Godfrey shows him the true meaning of knighthood and takes him on a journey across continents to the fabled Holy City. In Jerusalem at that moment–between the Second and Third Crusades–a fragile peace prevails, through the efforts of its enlightened Christian king, Baldwin IV, aided by his advisor Tiberias, and the military restraint of the legendary Muslim leader Saladin. But Baldwin’s days are numbered, and strains of fanaticism, greed, and jealousy among the Crusaders threaten to shatter the truce. King Baldwin’s vision of peace–a kingdom of heaven–is shared by a handful of knights, including Godfrey of Ibelin, who swear to uphold it with their lives and honor. As Godfrey passes his sword to his son, he also passes on that sacred oath: to protect the helpless, safeguard the peace, and work toward harmony between religions and cultures, so that a kingdom of heaven can flourish on earth. Balian takes the sword and steps into history.

What do you Christians make of this Bible verse? Anyone follow it?
Jesus quote:

"There be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." (Mt.5:29-30, Mt.18:8-9, Mk.9:43-48)

Pretty clear, isn’t it? Anyone practice it? Seems like a good idea, y’know, Jesus recommended it.

General thoughts and any input will be read and are appreciated. :)
@NONYA

I’m not a lez sweetie. I very much like the cock. :) It is what is in your Wholly Babble.
@ Everyone

Really? This is about celibacy? It seems to me like Jesus is recommending castration as a means to remain pure and attain a place in Heaven… eeksh…

I don’t think anything in Christian teaching positively encourages sex and anyone who says it does is lying to make themselves feel better. Christians aspire to chastity, nay, celibacy if they possibly can. That is why virgin saints are so important and so holy.

Alexis de Tocqueville | Feb 01, 2010

Typical lez. Always looking to castrate a man.

It meant that he recognised they sacrificed their cluster, to be able to sing up high, and their song was a powerful device to the heart. ‘
NONYA | Feb 01, 2010

There are celibate Christians, and that’s what the verse is about.
The_Cricket: Thinking Pink! | Feb 01, 2010

It means a man who has taken a vow of celibacy. It was common among the Jewish Essenes.
HTacianas | Feb 01, 2010

It’s obviously figurative of a believer that might choose to not marry, to more fully serve the Lord. Not that anyone has to be unmarried to serve the Lord, obviously. Most servants of the Lord are married.
David | Feb 01, 2010

Let him receive it, for heaven’s sake.
Quepiedra | Feb 01, 2010

I think the verse recommends that people try to be sexually pure or something like that. I’m not sure if that’s a correct intepretation, though.
Chris G | Feb 01, 2010

i think they want to remain pure before the Lord
annoidofu | Feb 01, 2010

That’s the priesthood and the vows of celibacy. It’s not a requirement for the priesthood, but that’s what this verse refers to. It’s basically Jesus giving the authority for people to choose celibacy as a worthy goals. Some Protestants/Bible-Only Christians for some reason completely forget about this passage. It doens’t mean anyone should do it, it just means that it’s an acceptable way to live a Christian life. Most Christians believe Jesus lived this way. The irony!
gossamer presents… Sarah! | Feb 01, 2010

Sounds harsh to me. Cut it off to get into heaven? No thank you.

But really, you won’t need any plumbing in heaven– no intercourse is needed for there is no procreation.
Jeff (weseye) Wesley | Feb 01, 2010

paul said that marrying could be a handicap for a christian who wanted to spread the word, but by the same token, living without physical love could be distracting also. so, if you can live withot it, it is better according to paul.
sirheinsohn | Feb 01, 2010

Not sure what version this is, but I use the NIV:

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Matthew 5:29-30

and yes, I practice it. Not in it’s literal sense, however. Look at people who struggle with pornography addictions, they throw their computers away… those who struggle with gossip stop talking to those who encourage them to gossip. People who try and quit smoking stop buying cigarettes- they cut off whatever it is that is causing them to sin. Just because Jesus say’s "cut off" doesn’t mean we are to literally cut it off…

in life, don’t we say "cut (this person) off" are we literally cutting someone off?
AgentJEM | Feb 01, 2010

There will be some who remain celibate.

duh
Cat_LoveR | Feb 01, 2010

Eunuch’s were part of the society back then. They were often young men used as servants.
They posed no sexual threat to those that they served, particularly if they were servants to women.

Jesus does not broadly recommend it. He mentions them as a point in fact hat there are eunuchs among society. "He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."

In our sexually charged society, it seems everything has a sexual connotation. Can one adopt a celibate lifestyle? Of course, and that is what Jesus is referring to. Not everyone is called to live a life of celibacy, but there ARE those that have that as part of their life-calling.

His statement could just as easily have been stated, "If that’s what your calling is, then follow that calling."
Bobby Jim | Feb 01, 2010

The Apostles and Prophets many times endured situations in their Journey in Following that did not become conducive to this type of Marriage for was their not persecution and the stability of the interest divided between family and Work would be compromised?

For instance Jeremiah was thrown in the well and then they made fun of him by placing him with the keeper of the harem of the King of Israel who was a Eunuch made that way for the tending of the Kings ladies…. The Ethiopian Eunuch believes and is rewarded with life is written. Philip is the carryforward sign of this same event in Prophecy in keeping with the Elijah whirlwind fashioning away. They sow the wind and they reap the whirlwind for they that are led by The Spirit of God are like the wind and one cannot tell from where to where the wind may be blowing at one time or another in advance, necessarily. For to as many as received to those who believed on Him to them He gave the Power to become the children of the seed of Eve The Woman of God who are destined to be conformed into the likeness of the form of the new creation of the Resurrected tabernacle of the body in Paradise.
prophetica | Feb 01, 2010

Jesus spoke more about marriage than He did celibacy. The same is true when God spoke through the Apostle Paul.

The point is, few men are suited for "celebacy", but for those that are ("He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."), it is better for the Kingdom of God. A man that is married must divide his time between his wife, children, and the things of God. A celebate man can give himself solely to the Lord.

It is important to understand that the Lord Jesus Christ was teaching through the use of a parable. In other words, He was using giving a heavenly or spiritual lesson using a earthly example.

who pleasure who in dating?
1)i think both should pleasure each other .Not men more than women or women more than men.why do women think men should pleasure them more?boyfriend is to love not to serve you.women is just a gender in a species on earth.there is nothing special about them.women is not a prize or anything.

2)do you want to pleasure your boyfriend or just want him to pleasure you.for example, during valentine day why must only men please women and women never men .do you make your boyfriend happy on valentine day .

3)do you care about your boyfriend feeling when you tell everything you do to your friends?it is like boyfriend is to make use of and let your friends be the "judges" then pass "sentence" and treat him like a toy.if your boyfriend tell you not to disclose anything about his privacy (penis size, what he do exactly sex),would you listen?or ignore him.

What?

OK, well, I don’t really think you have a question that’s going to be answered here to your liking. Seems like you are just making general statements and throwing a question mark on the end of them.

1) Women don’t think that. This is the GLBT section, not the dating section. Lesbians don’t care what men think, generally.

2) I do not want to pleasure any man.

3) I do not care about men, therefore I do not care about their feelings. I don’t wish them any harm, but I just don’t have men in my life. That whole lesbian thing gets in the way.

If my partner told all our friends what we did in the bedroom, they wouldn’t be my partner. If my partner ever treated me like an object, a toy, I would ditch them. No one owns me. And no, I would not go around telling everyone the size of my girlfriend’s breasts.

Sounds like you have no idea as to what a relationship is. Perhaps in your culture, women are treated as object. I would advise leaving, if you can.

Is it normal for a male amstaff to be "mothering" to a puppy?
We picked up our 10 week old english bull terrier a week and a half ago. Our amstaff took an immediate liking to her and has been babying her ever since. He plays with her, he sleeps with her and he even grooms her. When they play he rolls on his back or side to seem less intimidating. He also lets her share his toys. Even his precious squeaky dragon. I’m happy they get along so well and right from the start, but I find it odd how mothering he’s been. Is it normal for an altered male to be so nurturing to a puppy?

BTW I’m not complaining, I’m just curious.
I seriously doubt he will kill her. That’s going a bit extreme. Besides we do crate both dogs when we leave to run errands, so he wouldn’t have a chance to even if he wanted to. Which I highly doubt.

My sister had a dog that did this with a kitten.

She was so amazed at how the dog "loved" the kitten and was "mothering" the kitten.

One day she came home to a dead kitten.

The trainer she talked to after this that said one has to be VERY concerned about a dog that shows an obessessive interest in a new pet, baby, etc.

It is not normal at all for your dog to behave like that.

I would personally be concerned and not leave them alone unsupervised.
UHave2BeKiddingMe | Feb 06, 2010

Yes, this is normal. Dogs don’t differentiate so much between male and females as do humans. Males have a protective "mothering" instinct just as females do but usually do not get to put it into practice since they can’t give birth. It may also be a good thing that he is altered and the puppy is a female, so his other instinct (eliminating competition) is less likely to kick in.
But hey, that is just something I heard on an animal show and could be totally wrong! Just count yourself lucky that you have such a sweetie!!
Sheila | Feb 06, 2010

It could be normal. It happened to me when I was little and my family breed GSD’s. The father of one of the litters was acting like the mother. It was like they switched roles. Every dog is different. There are a lot of stories like yours out there. It’s just like when you see the shows on TV when a bear or something is mothering to a kitten or a ducks or something. Hehe…sorry the only animals I could think of.
I would just go with it. At least you won’t have to worry about the male not accepting the puppy.
Good Luck!!
Karyn and Nate | Feb 06, 2010

It’s not uncommon, just don’t leave them together unsupervised until the pup is a little older.

Don’t listen to the first answerer. I had a rescued APBT and he mothered my kitten and she’s just fine, and prefers to sleep with dogs more than cats.
BYB eating dragons want ketchup! | Feb 06, 2010

i would keep an eye on them and dont leave alone. but yeah i think its great, my nieces dog just had pups and her other dog had oone of them in her mouth. she just wanted to love it i believe. i read this story about a hurt big bird of some kind took to some baby bunnies. the bunnies were found and brought into the shelter. put in a cage and the bird stayed by that cage for a few days the people wanted to see what the bird would do with the bunnie and let them be together. the bird nudged at it with its nose and layed down adn out it under its wing a little bit and went to sleep so now they let the bird be the mommy to al the bunies i seen a pic andd its so cute
jjkk | Feb 06, 2010

Yes that is perfectly and utterly normal. Think about when you see a little kid alone you feel sorry for them and play with them. That is how your dog feels he is just playing and befriending him.

Plot: Sooner or later, the Mystery, Inc. gang had to take on Mexico’s legendary Bigfoot equivalent, El Chupacabra, and that’s precisely what they do in this entertaining, feature-length, Scooby-style investigation into the paranormal. Taking the Mystery Van south of the border, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo celebrate Day of the Dead festivities, which become less festive when a towering, glowering Chupacabra monster turns up to terrify both tourists and locals. The young snoops smell a conspiracy, and as they chase down clues their search for the truth leads them into sundry Mexican antiquities—ancient tombs and temples—where danger increases exponentially. There are the usual rituals: Our time-warped heroes run like the wind during encounters with alleged ghouls—particularly best-buds Shaggy and Scooby, when they aren’t stuffing themselves with delicious Scooby Snacks. The animation is slicker and smoother—and more pleasing—than some other, recent Scooby-Doo features.

my girlfriends dad is tring to break us up what do I do?
Ok my girlfriend and I met through another friend and she used to be very depressed so I did everything in my power to help her. Little did I know me and her clicked faster than anyone I’ve ever known so we became friends then best friends and finally a relationship grew out of us… BUT there is only one problem… she’s white and i’m black and her dad is racist and no not the violent I wanna hang u racist but the racist who doesn’t want his daughter with a black person. So we kept it secret for about 6 months then one day her saw me with her and he freaked so what did he do? her sent her to texas and told me that if I ever tried to call her again he’d have me arrested (I’m 18 she’s 15) but I met her when I was 17 so no I’m not a predator or anything of the sort I just want to see her again. she lives with her grandpa who doen’t like me but he see how happy I make her so he lets us talk but only for 45 mins per day. I want to talk more because what long distance relationship can thrive with only 45 mins a day? the time frame drives me crazy and we both cry a lot because her talking time is so short and we miss seeing each other. so what should I do I mean should I try and get her emancipated when she’s 16 or do I just go get her and I hide out until she’s 18 or what please help I’m very desperate any ideas?

i never judge people on their age but their level of maturity. girls mature a lot earlier than guys and even-though shes only 15 she may be mature enough for a relationship with you. but i honestly don’t think it is good for you to have her stay with you right now. let her(and yourself) date casually with different people just so in case you ever decide you wanna marry, you don’t regret ever living your crazy teen lives when you could. I’m glad she is happy with you, being depressed is extremely hard(i have it) but make sure you realize that depressed people will latch onto the first person who will be there for them…i do not know you so please don’t take any offense, i am saying these things based on the people I’vee known and personal experience.
as for being an Oreo couple…id suggest you back off and be just friends until her father sees that you aren’t just some creepo trying to bang his baby-girl. if you remain friends for a long time he may start to see that you are a nice person and genuinely care about his daughter. most guys will give up on someone if they just want sex, only the ones who matter wait for you. good luck!

I’m a girl who is fifteen. I’ve had many past long term relationships and from it i have learned a lot of things, so i hope i can be of some help. The best thing i can tell you is to not let your girlfriends father stand in the way of your love. One day the girl you love will be 18 and an adult who can be with you and make her own decisions. Once she is 18 her father can no longer stop you from seeing her.He may threaten you, or try to hurt you, but honestly, black people are a big part of the world and are loved by so many that no police officer would enforce that your girlfriend must stay away from you because of your race. Don’t let him get you down even though he may judge you. i know that its difficult having her dad hate you but thats a fact you have to accept if you want to stay apart of your girlfriends life. Don’t waste your time trying to change her fathers feelings about you and don’t try to be something your not because thats not what is important. The important thing is, is that you love her and she loves you, and if you really love her enough, you won’t give up or let anyone stand in the way of that love. Times are hard, but don’t give up on trying to create peace with her father, although in reality, that may never happen. During the forty five mins a day you have to talk to her, cherish them, and earn her grandfathers trust, and affections so that he will allow you to have more and longer amounts of contact time with your girlfriend. Just don’t give up hope. And be grateful of the time you do have to talk and be with her because things really could be so much worse. I hope this helped you.

That must be really tough. You obviously love her very much. Most guys would leave as soon as the drama comes along. Maybe try internet? Myspace, facebook, email, IM? You guys can talk that way as well. Also you guys need to talk about this, and maybe she is willing to get emancipated, but only do that if you are sure you guys have a future. Hiding out might work, but its risky.

But i just wanted to let you know that your being a real man by staying by her side.

i need to pick out a scary movie to watch with a guy, but i’m not sure what would be a good movie, its got to be really scary, and not have any nudity or sex (bc i don’t want to feel awkward haha)

The Exrocist .. have fun

Highalltimes | Jan 16, 2010

We have to look at the bigger problem. We all have to come together, and finally solve the issue with global warming. Talking about horror movies for a date isn’t going to save the earth. The economy is in great danger, and we all have to get together, and cooperate with each other in helping the environment, just like the many people that are out there right now making a difference.

Try a Saw movie or The Grudge (I hear the Japanese one is scarier)

How about Paranomal Activity. That one made my hairs on my arms stand up, really creepy. I agree about the exorcist too, creepy also. Ignore Mr Gore lol!

Remember the days when the top marginal federal income tax rate was like 90% for wealthiest people?
Why was the USA such a socialist country back then? Could you imagine? back in those days, they passed such laws as social security, and spent federal tax money to build network of highways, and dams and bridges and schools and all sorts of public work projects.

Boy, I am so glad we are no longer that kind of country.

I think republicans like to deny all the time from fdr to reagan when it comes to tax policy
